WatchTimestamp does not authenticate watches, verify ownership, verify seller identity, verify buyer identity, verify photo authenticity, detect image manipulation, hold funds, provide escrow, mediate disputes, or guarantee transactions.

Usernames are not verified

A username shown on a challenge record is entered by the person creating the challenge. Someone could enter a fake username or another person's username. WatchTimestamp does not offer login, Reddit OAuth, or username ownership checks.

What a timestamp challenge is not

  • Not authentication of the watch.
  • Not proof of ownership of the watch.
  • Not proof that a photo is unedited or unaltered.
  • Not proof that the seller, buyer, or counterparty is safe.
  • Not escrow and not buyer protection.
  • Not a substitute for marketplace rules, payment protection, or independent inspection.

What it does record

WatchTimestamp only records that a specific Challenge ID and required watch time were issued at a specific moment, along with public status (active or expired), an end time when one is stored, and any optional username provided on the creation form. Anyone with the Challenge ID can view this record.

Use ordinary marketplace caution

Buyers and sellers should still use the same caution they would use without WatchTimestamp: vet counterparties, prefer protected payment, and inspect items where possible.

No affiliation

WatchTimestamp is not affiliated with Reddit Inc., any subreddit, or any watch marketplace.
